Summary: Cosmic Era (C.E.), the end of the World War with nuclear weapons and the beginning of the space age. While science developed dramatically, the conflict between the genetically engineered human "coordinator" and the non-genetically engineered human "natural" has intensified. C.E.70, a nuclear attack on the plant "Valentine of Blood". The military organization Zaft of the plant and the Earth Alliance forces enter into a full-scale war. As the front stalemate, Zaft attacks Heliopolis, a resource satellite of the neutral Orb Union Emirate, and Kira Yamato, a student attending an industrial college, involved in the battle.
